About Me

I have a masters in Physical Education and Education, a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, a Bachelor of Exercise Sport Science all from Texas State University. I have pro certification in USPTA and USPTR. I teach by using a process called shaping or building up the stroke from its most basic componet. I work on the postive results and slowly eliminate the most glaring movements and shape the stroke into a smooth, relaxed, flowing stroke. I teach the player to carry the ball in the racket string bed instead of hitting the ball. This produces a higher percentage shot with less effort, more control and less chance of injury.
I was the tennis pro for a total of 20 years at clubs in Austin, including Tarry House Country Club, Onion Creek Country Club, Athletes In Motion, and Austin Tennis Center. I was the tennis coach for a total of 12 years at various high schools in Texas including, Weslaco, Rock Port and Bastrop. Additionally, I was the tennis coach at Liberty Hill Middle School and most recently the tennis coach at Saint Gaberials.

Teaching Style

I ask the student what area they would like to develope the most and then I would do drills, demonstrations, line out their objectives to reach their goals and steps to reach them. I specialize in strategy and tactics, working on the most complicated things such as the serve and vollies and show them how to construct and set up points. To understand what shots they should play, they need to know what is the highest percentage shot they should play when they are at a certain position on the court. For example, when they are on the baseline and they get a deep cross court shot to their forehand, they should play the ball cross court, not down the line and wait until they get a short ball to play down the line.
