About Me

Jerry was born in Beckley W. Va. He now resides in Henderson NC. Jerry was a top baseball player in W. Va. He played Triple A baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system in 1967 and 1968. Jerry started to play tennis when his wife, Joan, enrolled in a recreational course. He picked up tennis quickly and won local tournaments and went to Rod Laver and Dennis Van Dermeer to learn more about tennis. Jerry also learned from USPTR instructors and has recommended students to the Nick Bollettieri tennis Academy. In 2001 Jerry traveled to Auckland, New Zealand and Sydney Australia to coach 48 junior tennis players from across the United States.
Jerry is now retired and has developed many skills to help kids land scholarships. At least 3000 adults teenagers and children have become alumni over the past years. A lot of them participated in workshops and clinics held in connection with the Vance County Recreation Department and Oxford NC Recreation Department. However Jerry does the majority of teaching on his home tennis court.

Teaching Style

Jerry loves sharing tennis with young students. His style is to not over teach and give the students a chance to do things on their own. It's exhilarating to help them get through the challenges and enrich their enjoyment of the game. Jerry has a lesson plan for each student after seeing them play.
