About Me

Hi! I’m Tarun Kuruva, a varsity tennis player for my local high school. I also help the middle school coach teach the students down at the middle school learn tennis too. I think I can connect a lot with kids and I can put myself in their perspective to see the most effective way for them to understand what I’m trying to teach. I also like to have a lot of patience with my students so they don’t feel rushed, and can do their best without worrying about hurrying up or doing things too fast.

Teaching Style

I like to break my teachings down to its core for the kids to see why I tell them to do something. By showing them why to do something and showing the importance of doing a motion or a particular shot, they’ll see how it would effect or improve their game, making them want to keep doing what we learn even after class. If I just tell them repeatedly and blindly, they won’t see the importance of it and just go back to their old ways after the class. This is also important in life in general because people should always see why and the importance of their actions instead of just listening blindly. I’ll start the lesson from warming them up obviously, then we’ll go into ground strokes and moving ground strokes to see the quality of their forehands and backhands, as this is a lot of tennis, to learn the baseline rally. Then we’ll go into serving, as this is very very important too, this is how you start a tennis point. I like to make sure my students know how to hit different types of serves, shots, and spins to add to their arsenal. Finally we’ll go into some volleys or even some volley- games to keep the students net- game sharp, and encourage them to come to the net to volley while playing tennis as this is also a great offensive method. Also I like to give them something fun to do like some volley games before we get into some conditioning ;)
