About Me

Hi my name is Sam, I'm 18 years old and currently a student at the University of Maryland. I've been playing tennis on and off for the past 13 years, but I really found my passion in coaching. I've been coaching, privates, semi-privates, group lessons, workshops, fitness training, camps, and clinics for the past 7 years. I have experience coaching all ages and I'm pretty flexible on the location of the sessions, if there's a court near you I'd be happy to drive out and meet you there.

Teaching Style

**After each lesson (not counting the first) I will provide students with print out/emailed sheets of the drills we've covered and will cover, as well as supplemental fitness, and what they need to remember for the next lesson. **

FOR BEGINNERS: Whether it's to play competitively, to lose weight, for general proficiency, or just for a good workout, I'm here to help you achieve your goals with this sport. For younger players I structure my sessions like a series of games to keep them interested while still getting the practice and training they need. After a few lessons focusing on the basics I like to utilize equipment (lines/ball machine/ladders/targets/hurdles/cones) to help my client retain everything they've learned.

FOR ADVANCED BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATE: It's a complete misconception that your performance in tennis relies fully on your arms. One crucial lesson I've learned over the years of coaching and playing tennis, is that something so little as how you eyes move could make or break your shot. Tennis is a sport that uses every part of your body, simultaneously, in every shot you hit. I give every movement in the body equal attention when coaching. Starting down from the footwork, knees, hips, abductor muscles, chest, shoulder, wrists, neck, head, and eyes. I also emphasize giving your brain a workout while playing, instead of mindlessly hitting the ball, there are strategies to it, how to read your partner, where to stand to have the greatest advantage. To be great at any sport, you need to understand why you do what you do, while you play.

FOR SEMI-PRIVATE AND GROUP LESSONS: I structure my groups and semi-privates around each individual player's needs. Throughout the entire session I make sure neither player is idle, while one is working on hitting, the others will focus on footwork, serves, fitness, form, etc.

Amazing coach!

Sammy is a phenomenal tennis instructor. She coached both me and my daughter for over 2 years, and in every lesson we still learned something new and did something different. You can tell she loves the sport when you take a lesson from her. I have also never seen another coach as attentive to details and thorough as her, she would send us a summary of what we learned after every single class. I also took some morning tennis fitness training classes with her in the summer which I would highly recommend to anybody looking to lose some weight or use this sport to stay in good shape.
