About Me
I put myself through university getting my degree in English literature by giving lessons for the Park and Rec department. I was certified at the Vic Braden Tennis Academy by Vic Braden (in tennis a world famous researcher and teacher of coaches) in 1974. Villa Park High School hired me as Head Coach from 1975-1980 while I also gave private lessons. Anaheim Tennis Center hired me as head professional in 1982 and was the owner of the club from 1994-2007. I still teach at ATC and run the junior team tennis program with seven teams and 65 players. During this period, the 70s through the late 90s, I continued to play tournaments in the Open division. I have had many students highly ranked in Southern California and former and current students attend college on scholarships. However, I love teaching every level from first lesson beginner, adult or junior, to tourney players. I am currently rated Pro 1 Elite by USPTA, which is the highest rating possible by the world's leading certification organization for tennis professionals.
Teaching Style
I am an expert in teaching all strokes: if the strokes are flawed, they will fail under pressure. My style is to teach the student how to solve problems in the middle of the match: how to analyze their stroke, find what is failing and correct it. It is the same with strategy: to analyze, under pressure, what is working and what is not and institute successful changes. I am very patient with all levels of learners.

It's been an absolute pleasure to learn from Coach Ron for over 8 years. His lessons are structured to meet and exceed every player's individual needs. He will patiently work with you to find the method that’s most effective. I would recommend any player to give Ron a try who seeks to better their game from all aspects. His enthusiasm and love for the game make every lesson worthwhile. At one point, I had to relearn my fundamentals following my growth spurt and Ron was able to help me find my game again. What also amazes me is his ability to reference past and current pro players’ match plays as well as techniques within his lessons. My passion for tennis over the years would not have been the same without Ron as my coach and mentor.
I have taken lessons from Ron for over two years. I have always looked forward to the lessons because of how rapidly I improved, how nice of an instructor Ron is, and how I was able to understand the things that he taught me. Besides my high school coach, Ron is the only coach I've had that was able to explain the purpose of everything whether that was volleys, ground strokes, serves, etc. Since he explained everything very well, as a player I could coach myself in a match because of his explaining in lessons really stick with you mentally. Taking lessons from Ron brought me from top J.V. to top Varsity within a year, and I'd say along with my effort and ability to learn quickly Ron was the reason why I was able to achieve that. I enjoyed each lesson very much, as I was always looking forward to seeing him and working with him. If you are doing tournaments along with the lessons, at the beginning of each lesson he'll ask you how you did, did you play well, or is there something we can work on? Talking with Ron is always time well spent because again, of his explaining of how things work, how you are able to make certain shots, and the mind set necessary for a match or for individual points. I would recommend Ron 100% of the time especially if you are a hard worker. If you really try and work on things outside of the lessons you will become a much, much better player.
Excellent coach, worth every dollar! My son worked with Ron for 8+ years in group lessons, private lessons and team tennis. My daughter is currently taking lessons while playing on her high school team. Both my kids play differently and Ron's lessons are very individualized to each of their needs. Ron is very knowledgeable, professional, patient, detailed, and will work with all aspects of the game. Even I learn something new each time as a parent watching from the side.
Ron is an excellent tennis coach and I highly recommend him! Once you get to know Ron, you quickly realize he has a lifelong passion for tennis and he really enjoys coaching. My son has been taking lessons from Ron for over three years and he has made tremendous progress. We have never had a lesson from Ron where the energy level and commitment to excellence were anything less than 100 percent. Ron has a great sense of when to introduce new topics and also seems to know when things get off track and require a refresher on fundamentals. Ron takes the time to explain the physics behind the techniques and always has plenty of examples that keep things interesting and educational. Ron does an excellent job covering strategy and the mental aspect of the game. You really get a strong sense that Ron wants you to succeed. For me, working with Ron feels more like a partnership with the mutual goal of helping my son reach his full potential.
My experience with Ron has been amazing. Ron never was a coach to me, but a friend. He always cared about me and wanted me to get better at my game. He is how a true coach should treat his kids. I have been under the direction of many bad coaches and if I compare those guys with Ron, Ron stands at the top of the list. He knows what he is talking about and if we do not understand what he is saying, he translates it in a way that we can understand it. Ron is how a good, true coach should be like.
Ron has been coaching my 10 year old daughter privately and in team tennis for almost 2 years now. He is the perfect combination of supportive and firm, always striving for excellence. He is always very careful to explain exactly "how and why" when teaching new techniques as well as perfecting old. Parents often approach me to comment on how beautiful her stroke technique looks.
I think the best thing about Ron is that he adapts to the student to bring out their best. He has not only significantly elevated her play, I also credit him for her love of the game. He has been able to make breakthroughs with her where other coaches have failed.
Ron is also extremely professional. When he makes a commitment to you to coach and develop you or your child as a tennis player and athlete, he will always give 100%.
