About Me
Hi! My Name is Robby. I am a USPTA certified tennis professional from Los Angeles, where I played singles and doubles for California State University, Northridge. For the past 22 years, I have been coaching and teaching tennis in the Atlanta area. I absolutely love every aspect of tennis. The physicality, the mental toughness and intelligence, creating winning, and just knowing you gave it your all no matter the outcome. I equally am passionate about sharing my enjoyment and expertise on the court as a player and as a teaching pro with my students. My expertise includes beginners to college level players, tiny tots to seniors. I want you to improve and go as high up the ladder as you can and have a great time learning and playing tennis. One of my favorite things about being a tennis pro is to get my students to go outside the box that they have limited themselves with and to watch them grow as a player and as a confident person. As a player, I have victories over nationally and world ranked players, including winning the USTA National Championship and two Semifinalist results. I continue to play high level competitive tennis. I love to pay it forward and enjoy volunteering as a coach or player in many charity tennis events and pro/ams, including teaching in Special Olympic tennis days, Tennis Against Breast Cancer, MS, USTA events, tennis for the troops and more. While in Los Angeles, I was a writer and contributing editor for Tennis West Magazine for ten years, director of tennis and head tennis pro at two clubs, and coached high school tennis teams. Tennis is truly a game for a lifetime of fun, fitness and friendships!
Teaching Style
Whether you want to learn tennis for fun, social, or competition, I am dedicated to your individual styles and goals. I love teaching kids and instilling a life long love of the game just as much as I enjoy teaching adults. Enthusiastic, encouraging, motivating and patience, combined with strong technique describes my style. My coaching and playing experience, along with an understanding of people, qualifies me to teach all aspects & levels of tennis. I give private & group lessons, drill, strategy and footwork clinics, team coaching. I have also taught some handicapped students, including children with autism & physical limitations, such as helping an 8-year-old how to serve with one arm. I also specialize in quick start tennis for preschoolers as well offering lessons geared for the senior population. I still compete, volunteer as a pro in charity events, and attend continuing education workshops with the USPTA and USTA for a complete blend of old school and new school coaching techniques. I absolutely love to bring out the best in my students.
