About Me

My name is Coach Mark; I started playing tennis when I was 9 years old. I attended Bishop O’Connell High School were I was a four-time State Catholic Champion. I was also inducted into the Bishop O’Connell Athletic Hall of Fame. I was the Winter MATA Champion and had a top ranking in the 18 and unders. I had numerous scholarships to universities and selected James Madison University. I played no. 1 singles and doubles for 4 straight years. I was ranked in the top 50 in the United States for men’s amateur. I taught for Peter Burwash and at the University of West Virginia. I have been teaching high school students and friends.

I am with juniors, beginners or advanced players looking to fine tune their game. I am open for flexible and creative times and locations.

Teaching Style

If I am teaching an individual I will tailor the session based upon the level of experience of the student. I am comfortable working with beginners teaching proper foot work, request grip(s) and fundamental stroking. For intermediate and advanced students it will depend upon the individual, their skill level and what they desire to get out of the lesson. I’m comfortable and enjoy teaching match strategy. I feel comfortable saying there are few instructors who have as much experience as I have.

Coach Mark is an awesome teacher. He breaks down technique from the moment you start but then shows you how to build from the base up. His passion for tennis is evident, and he truly loves providing tutelage

I just had my first lesson and I was fascinated by how much I have improved just with one lesson! Coach Mark is very patient, encouraging and enthusiastic about teaching. He systematic approach to tennis techniques make it easy for me to follow through and actually see improvements. He showed me the techniques to do a top spin forehand and backhand which are amazingly achievable. I highly recommend Coach Mark for tennis lessons!

I've been taking lessons with Mark for around 1 month. I only have good things to say about him. Mark is super friendly, upbeat, has an obvious passion for tennis and also for teaching. Mark has years of experience teaching and has also played the game at the highest level, There are a lot of "tennis pros" out there who will try toconvey what it takes to hit a good ball without ever having hit one themselves—Mark is not one of those guys.In the short time that I've trained with him, I have seen improvements in my game; I've learned that it is worth spending a little money to enjoy the game more by playing closer to my potential.Mark is fun and energetic. He doesn't only teach tennis but he spreads his love for it upon you and that's what's attractive about taking his lessons. Five star coach – Looking forward to a long term tennis arrangement and friendship. G. Johnson

I had so much fun and learning after one session with Coach Mark! He is an excellent coach, within a few minutes, I already learned so many new things and number of flaws in a way how I was not being disciplined enough to get ready to hit the ball. Now that every time when I am about to swing at the ball, I always remember what coach Mark said to me, I then hit the ball much more cleaner. I would recommend Coach Mark to anyone.
