About Me

Hi, my name is Lucas, I'm currently a college student. I started playing tennis when I was around 11 or 12. I was a 4-year varsity starter at Del Norte High School in San Diego. I have over 5 years of coaching experience in private lessons, group clinics, and camps. I've coached people of a variety of ages.

Teaching Style

At the core of my coaching philosophy is an interactive and engaging approach. I firmly believe that the best way to develop players is to actively involve them in the learning process. This means employing drills and exercises that encourage players to think critically and make decisions on their own. Rather than simply dictating techniques, I aim to create scenarios that prompt players to problem-solve and adapt their skills in real-time. This approach not only improves their technical proficiency but also enhances their tactical awareness and decision-making abilities. Providing timely and constructive feedback is integral to this process, as it ensures that players understand their progress and areas needing improvement. I encourage open communication, making sure that players feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their perspectives.

Understanding that each player is unique, I emphasize a personalized and adaptive coaching style. I assess each player’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences to tailor my instruction accordingly. This individualized focus allows me to design drills and practice sessions that address specific needs, fostering more effective learning and improvement. Flexibility is also a key component of my approach. While I follow a structured plan, I remain open to adjusting methods based on players’ progress and feedback. This adaptability ensures that training remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of each player.

Creating a positive and encouraging environment is central to my coaching philosophy. I believe that a supportive atmosphere helps players build confidence and maintain motivation. My focus is on fostering a growth mindset, where players view challenges as opportunities for development rather than obstacles. I celebrate achievements and provide constructive guidance when players face difficulties, ensuring that they remain motivated and resilient. Positive reinforcement is a key tool in my coaching style, as it helps to build self-esteem and enthusiasm for the game.
