About Me
I have been playing tennis for as long as I can remember, and the sport has been a major part of my life from childhood through adulthood. I began coaching in high school by helping lead clinics alongside other instructors, and I continued teaching independently while completing my degree at UC San Diego.
I have experience coaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced players, and I enjoy helping each player develop in a way that fits their goals - whether that means learning fundamentals, building consistency, improving technique, developing match strategy, or competing at a higher level.
I played varsity tennis for four years in high school, including regional and state appearances and a CIF championship. I continued competing through four years of college club tennis, and today I actively play 4.5 and 5.0 USTA leagues in the Madison area.
My coaching philosophy focuses not only on technique, but also on footwork, shot selection, point construction, and building confidence on court. I believe improvement comes from developing strong fundamentals while learning how to play smarter and more consistent tennis. My goal is to create lessons that are challenging, engaging, and enjoyable while helping players make meaningful progress over time.
Teaching Style
My coaching philosophy focuses on building strong fundamentals while helping players understand why things work. Tennis improvement is not only about hitting better shots - it is about developing movement patterns, consistency, decision-making, and confidence that hold up during real match situations. Here are some examples of what we will work on together:
- Stroke technique and mechanics
- Warm-up and movement preparation
- Fitness and Conditioning
- Footwork and court movement
- Rally consistency and ball control
- Shot selection and point construction
- Developing spin, depth, and consistency
- Building confidence under pressure
- Practice habits that translate into competition
I believe improvement comes from balancing technical development with repetition, understanding, and intentional practice. When I identify inefficient mechanics or habits that may limit long-term growth, I work with players to make adjustments while keeping lessons positive, challenging, and enjoyable. My goal is not only to help players improve during lessons, but to give them tools they can carry into matches and continue building on independently.
Lessons are tailored to each player's goals and level. Some players want to build confidence and rally consistently. Others want to compete at a higher level or refine specific parts of their game. My role is to identify areas for improvement, create clear development goals, and help players build habits that produce lasting progress.

Working with Jonathan has been a great experience for my tennis. He helped me improve my volleys by identifying technical issues I didn’t even realize I had, especially with footwork, grip, and preparation. What I appreciated most was how clearly he explained things and broke them down into simple adjustments that actually worked. We spent a lot of time hitting and doing repetition drills, and he was always patient and encouraging throughout the process. He creates a comfortable environment where you feel confident trying new things without pressure. I genuinely felt improvement in both my technique and confidence at the net. He’s also very easygoing, and fun to learn from. I would definitely recommend Jonathan to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and supportive coach.
He is an incredibly friendly and supportive coach who genuinely cares about helping players improve. He teaches with patience and encouragement, always making me feel more confident on the court. Thanks to him, I overcame my fear of going to the net in doubles and started playing much more aggressively and confidently. He is always willing to help whenever there is an opportunity and truly wants his players to succeed. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their game in a positive and motivating environment.

As a beginner tennis player who has only played a few times before, Jonathan was very patient and explained things clearly. He was also very friendly and easy to communicate with. His lessons were fun and I had a great time!
