About Me

Hi, my name is Jon. At the age of 3, I began playing tennis and instantly fell in love with the game. What separates me from other teaching professionals is my true passion for tennis and my ability to not only teach all of the different aspects of the game, but to do them as well. My keen understanding of all the technical and strategic aspects of the game as well as my strong desire to always to get better at what I do, aids me in continuing to improve and master my craft. I try to communicate in a way that my students can best understand, taking into consideration a specific student’s preferred learning method or style. While combining fun with learning is important, I strive to keep in mind that the goal is for my students always to improve. Most importantly, the structure and direction of YOUR lesson will be geared to YOUR needs and goals. I have worked with players of all ages (3 years old upwards to 75 years young!) and ability levels (beginner to nationally ranked junior and D1 college player), and ultimately just love working with anyone with a desire to learn and become part of the sport I love.

I am a former #5 USTA nationally ranked and #1 USTA Eastern ranked junior tennis player, as well as a former Division 1 starting singles player. My credentials include USPTA certification as an Elite/P1 Professional, 15 years of coaching/teaching experience and a current UTR player rating of 13.5. Come join me and together we will grow your game!

Teaching Style

I emphasize integrated biomechanics and technique in every stroke that I teach. My collaborative approach assists us in deciding the focus of each lesson. Once this is determined, my preferred method of teaching is to use a slow linear progression with increasing stages of difficulty incorporating shadow strokes, feeding, and game specific drills to work towards mastery of any area. Once I have developed a true understanding of my students' game, I try to gear the lesson toward maximizing my students’ strengths while also correcting their weaknesses at any level of play.

Jon is an excellent tennis coach. He breaks down the game into easy to follow steps. I have seen my game improve over the past six weeks with him. A good player and a great teacher.

My son is the one taking the lessons. He is very happy as Jon helped him focus on correct techniques and form. Jon pushes and encourages him to work hard and build endurance. I would highly recommend Jon as a coach.

I have worked with many coaches over the years (directly and indirectly, observing my children working with coaches). Of all these, I would rate Jon as the highest. He is very determined, very strong on teach the mechanics, very creative in his style, tailors his approach to the temperament of the student and truly views it as his mandate to help the player significantly improve their game. He also has very strong communication skills and modifies his language and analogies to the player, so his instruction is not only heard but also internalized. He places a lot of emphasis on visual teaching and leverages videos of the student and professional players to illustrate his points. He is also very repetitive and does not advance his students until they have mastered the basics. He quickly hones in on the areas of their game that can be most quickly improved upon. Logistically, Jon is very organized and runs a tight training program.
