About Me
I am a USPTR-certified instructor. I have been teaching for more than 20 years. I have had teaching instructions from the late Tim Gullikson, Pete Sampras' teacher. I have been to many workshops on Quickstart and 10 and Under Tennis as well as many tennis teaching camps. I am Certified from PTR in 11 to 17 and Adult Development. I have worked with tennis pros such as Dennis Vandermere, who was the founder of USPTR, and Todd Martin, a former no. 5-ranked player who is very active in 10 and Under Tennis. My students range in age from 3 to 80 years old. I still play competitive tennis in the super seniors. I have all the neccessary equipment for teaching.
Teaching Style
My teaching style creates an envionrment that instills good sportsmanship, a desire for excellence, camaraderie and proper stroke development. I also emphasize proper footwork, which I consider to be the foundation of a strong tennis game. I will help you develop a winning attitude, but also teach you how to lose with dignity.

John took me on as a result of my wife calling my tennis bluff by purchasing two one hour tennis lessons with John as my 64th present. Two years later, with John's ongoing help, I am able to hold my own on the court. We continually review, as necessary, basic skills as I work on strategy and more advanced skills.
John is patient and able to offer memorable imagery that I have incorporated into my tennis game. As I move into retirement and expect to play tennis on a regular basis, I am both grateful and fortunate to have John Gerardi serve as my tennis coach.
John is upbeat and direct. He gives you a lots of feedback and lots of balls to hit. I feel like make progress each lesson. Thanks John
John is wonderful! He does a great job coaching my son. He’s patient and really knows how to coach. And he makes it fun! My son’s game has gotten so much better in a short amount of time. I highly recommend him!
Coach John is a great coach. His teaching style is extremely laid back but yet he's able to give great lessons and tips without making me feel intimidated. He responds really quickly and sends out a reminder text before each lesson. He's extremely organized and always on time. Also, he's extremely dedicated. I enjoy his classes and walk out of the court feeling more confident each time. Not only does Coach John makes every lesson a lot of fun, he puts a real focus on giving you the tools to keep getting better. He's a great teacher, and I definitely recommend him for players at all levels.
John is a great tutor, not only he is a professional teacher on tennis , but also a mentor and father/grandfather for the students!
I have met with John because of my nephew, an international high school student, Neo Liu has learned 12 lessons from John. John is a trusted, responsible, kind, humor, understanding, gentle man. He teaches my nephew how to adapt American culture, how communicate with peers, and how to practice without hurting himself, including wearing gloves and hat during the practice in the cold weather, running before practice, and many techniques of playing tennis games.
I highly recommend John to you and your child for the tennis tutor!
Great! Professional and responsible .
John is terrific. My daughter learned a lot in a short period of time and dramatically improved her game. One can see that John is passionate about his work, and that passion rubbed off on my daughter. I highly recommend John.
I've been taking lessons with John for a few months. It has been a great experience.
The lessons are structured so as you work on several drills separately for a period of time ending with 10-15 minutes of rallying the ball.
John corrects in real time. He's adamant that you don't develop poor habits. He's patient, encouraging and tries different approaches to improve your game.
John Gerardi has the unique ability to observe a tennis students approach to hitting tennis balls, movement to the ball and how the player can make adjustments to better construct a point. John Gerardi has a special way of making lessons fun and his students not only enjoy their tennis experience but see improvements in their play almost immediately. His balance of teaching techniques and elements of fun is contagious. I would recommend Mr Gerardi to help introduce children and adults to the game of tennis, as well as tennis players who have already played the game. His experience, enjoyment and knowledge of the game would be an asset to any tennis player who is looking to begin playing tennis or is already an experienced tennis player.
My family has been coached by John for 2 years now. My husband and I enjoy our tremendous progress in the quality of the game we play now. Our kids 13 and 7 year old have improved significantly as well. John has a great talent to carefully observe and correct technique and strategy! I am very happy with John and recommend him to anyone who would like to become a better tennis player.
John is an extremely knowledgeable tennis instructor and a big believer in positive reinforcement. He is able to breakdown and explain movements in a way that helps me move past what are often mental—not physical—hurdles, improving my game, step-by-step. He gives great coaching to my group, which ranges from two to four students each week, each of us at somewhat different proficiency levels. He packs a lot of learning into 90 minutes, and we get a great workout and to have fun. I would recommend John to anyone looking for a tennis instructor, especially beginners and advanced beginners.
John has been working with my daughter Gabby for approx. two months now. She has shown marked improvement in her skills as well as her interest in the game. John provides a learning environment that is both instructional and supportive. John has fostered my daughters love of tennis and she looks forward to seeing John each week.
I work with John in a small group setting. We meet for 1.5 hours, once a week. He is quite patient and works with all of us to help improve our game. John takes the time to explain any mistakes that we make, each and every time we make them. His rates are reasonable and we have an enjoyable time. I can say that in the year I have known him, all aspects of my game have improved.
John is a wonderful coach. Both my children and my husband and I have been taking lessons with him for over a year now. He has improved all our skills and games. He keeps it fun for the kids but gives them tough love when they need to be pushed. He praises what we get right and helps us fix what we're getting wrong.
Coach John is a terrific tennis instructor. He works with my daughters ages 6, 8, and 11. He is great with children and explains things in a way they can understand. Also he has given me pointers to improve my tennis game. He is excellent with both adults and children
John is a great instructor for adults AND kids alike! John has been working with both my son, who is 10, and me over the last year. We've done private lessons as well as group lessons. We've always played for fun as a family (with my husband and daughter). But I really wanted to learn how to play the game, and play well, and so did my son.
We've both come a long way in a short time and have had so much fun. John is very disciplined and takes the game seriously (to make sure you are doing things right ) but is also a great deal of fun, as well as encouraging and motivating.
I highly recommend him as an instructor for individual or group lessons. You will learn a lot and see real progress.
My experience with John is amazing to say the least!! Johns love and dedication to the sport of tennis shines through his lessons! He can take you to the next level... I like to call him the "fix it man". He has so much patience to make his student achieve the best technique. What makes John better than any other coach, he truly cares!!! I would highly recommend John for anyone who wants to improve their game and achieve a higher level of play.
Coach John is so helpful and knowledgeable about the game. He's patient with those learning the correct strokes and also makes it fun at the same time. We are loving our lessons and time with him and looking forward to the training ahead!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I had just picked up a racquet after a number of years and couldn't get my forehand working. John stepped in and within an hour I had regained my confidence and was hitting well again. Over the course of 6 lessons we worked on serves (I have a new serve that is 80-90% reliable on 1st serve!), other ground strokes, half court shots, volleys, and overall game play. It's been great and I have a new love of the game. John is a great coach, very patient and will make you a well-rounded player by focusing on what you need/want to work on.
Coach John did a great job with my grandson. He created a lot of enthusiasm for tennis. He was patient, did a great job teaching him tennis skills and was an effective communicator with this nine year old. My grandson really enjoyed the experience and I hope when he visits again I can arrange some additional lessons.
This review applies to all 5 lessons my grandson took with Coach John.
My experience with Coach John has been excellent. Prior to taking lessons with Coach John, my only experience playing tennis was from an elementary course taken eight years ago. Over the course of approximately six one-hour lessons with Coach John, I have learned the core strokes so that I can play/rally at a basic level and, more importantly, worked toward developing proper footwork, kinematics/form, and timing required to fully enjoy the sport. Each lesson was started with a quick warm-up activity followed by a combination of a review of the prior lesson, introduction to new concepts, and deliberate practice. Coach John was very attentive to the details of my footwork, form, and strokes throughout the lessons and provided constant feedback. He was also very responsive and helpful whenever I had any questions, and he knew how to change the pace/focus of lessons when I needed time to recover my energy. Consequently, I would recommend Coach John to other advanced beginners like myself since he provides a positive environment to develop your ability to play and enjoy tennis.
