About Me
Hi, my name is James. I have an M.A. in Kinesiology is a USPTR certified tennis coach with an extensive nationally ranked collegiate playing background.
I was ranked playing college tennis for all four years, starting with Top 10 in doubles in California junior colleges, while playing at Mount San Jacinto Junior College. I finished my college tennis career at Bethany College in Kansas after being ranked as high as Top 15 in the nation in Doubles and Top 25 in Singles, taking the team to two national championship appearances. I was also been ranked in the Top 10 Southern California Open division in doubles and and still compete in local 5.0+ and 5.5 league matches in the Bay Area.
I am now the assistant coach of women's and men's tennis at De Anza College and have also worked with local academies in developing high performance players.
Located in the Bay Area, I aim to improve your tennis game, overall fitness and health!!
I have developed numerous beginners in to competitive tournament players, adults into higher USTA ratings and have improved high level competitive players into tournament winning athletes.
I have played against players within the top 200 in the world and know what it takes to succeed at the highest levels. Come and find out how I can make your game better.
Teaching Style
Extensive knowledge of the basic , intermediate and advanced development of a tennis player/athlete. The key emphasis is to develop the body so that it is able to strike the ball aggressively, move on the tennis court quickly, and have the tennis coordination to be able to compete. Through my knowledge and focus on my kinesiology studies of the body I can help players get faster and stronger through tennis specific training techniques that's are not focused on by 90% of coaches. The lesson structure focuses on basic fundamentals, movement, and fitness techniques to improve the overall tennis game of the player.

My son made progress with the coach James’s help!!
My son likes Coach James very much.
James is really good with kids and knows how far to push while still keeping them interested. My daughter has learned a lot and improved her fitness significantly. Highly recommended.
James looked at my swings and found simple things for me to change that I could immediately see made a difference and were better than what I was doing previously. We did some drills of different types, and played some rally points and a tiebreaker. He's a positive guy, very friendly. I feel really good about having decided to take lessons, and think my game is going to improve as a result of them.
Our daughter Sophia is 9 years old. Sophia has no experience playing tennis. James has been an outstanding instructor. He is patient and easy to understand
He is encouraging and praises
Sophia for effort. Highly recommend James.
James is a terrific coach. He is extremely patient with beginners, who tend to look for quick results. He emphasizes on building a good foundation for improving your game. My game has noticeably improved after training with James. I find myself having better control and thinking about why a shot failed. His drills can be incorporated easily into your sessions with any other training partner. Keep up the good work James!
