About Me

Hi, my name is Frank. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a very caring, loving athletic family in a small but vibrant town in Rhode Island where my siblings (two brothers and one sister) and I each excelled in various sports, including but not limited to: hockey, baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, sailing, swimming and figure skating. I’m the only one in my family not to participate in a sporting competition at the national level, yet. I’m still trying to get to the Nationals in USTA tennis, having finished second twice in the Sectionals (New England) and several District Championships. My father instilled in me and my siblings the sense of healthy spirited competition and fair play which we all exhibit in our lives today in some respect. I began coaching the Barrington, R.I. Junior Varsity tennis team in the spring of 2012 and enjoy seeing the boys respond to my encouragement and love of the game. It is rewarding when the time and effort pays off by seeing the student get excited about a great shot or a win and thanking me for the teaching. Even better is having a student come up to me with overwhelming joy after beating someone they had never previously beaten and credit me with helping. I cater to beginners and intermediate players and provide both a standard (universal) and individualized regimen. I work with what a person might exhibit natural tendencies towards as opposed to forcing a particular style or grip (i.e. eastern or western). Depending upon the commitment, desire and dedication of the player, the instruction will advance accordingly.

Teaching Style

I don’t have a set structure or style, nor do I necessarily specialize in any one part of the game. Each person is an individual and I approach it from that perspective. I see what type personality, experience, commitment and ability I am dealing with and take it from there. So I guess one could say my style is to cater and contour the lesson to each specific need, all the while educating and instructing the mental as well as physical elements of the sport. Depending on the commitment and prior experience of the individual, I may work on all aspects of the game, including grip, swing, foot movement, placement, and most importantly of all, discipline, attitude and perseverance - the mental aspects, or just a few. The ability - which can most definitely be acquired, to figure people out and how they play, and keeping an open mind and never stop learning are vital aspects of tennis and life. Just getting outside on the court and running around and taking a fun approach to the game is an incredibly entertaining way to purge toxins from the body and stimulate and rejuvenate cells. I enjoy it much more than the repetitive cycle or elliptical at the gym.

Karen D. - August 12, 2015

Frank is a great tennis coach. He knows the game and is very patient when teaching. Frank's style is to play back and forth with you, instead of drills. He is very flexible with scheduling as well.

Brittany D. - February 2, 2016

Frank has been a great instructor to my 6 year old daughter. She was enthusiastic about trying tennis and his patience and encouragement has really allowed her to come out of her shell. I'm always grateful when I find someone who is willing to take the time to listen to her as well as teach.

Valessa G. - August 21, 2016

Fun to hit with for any player young or old.

Jurgen A. - June 13, 2018

I am probably older than Frank's usual student (+75). I have been away from the game for a long time and wanted to ease myself back in. Frank shows great patience and understood my need to take some breaks :-). I am making good progress and looking forward to playing for many years to come...well, at least a few years. Highly recommend him.
