About Me

I have 36 years experience teaching, 20 years experience coaching college tennis , 9 years directing junior academies, and 16 years experience directing adult programs. I worked with over 350 ranked players (as high as ITF/WTA), in the past year with 3 #1 ranked juniors in New England and 15 players who reached top 5 in their countries. I am a Level IV coach (National level) or USPTA Master Professional and PTR International Master Professional, one of 12 persons in the world to hold both distinctions. I won the Doc Counsilman Award - US Olympic Committee Coach of the Year in 2012 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USOPC_Coach_of_the_Year) , was named Best of Boston in 2010 and was a four-time Pro of the Year. For training, I have a Master of Tennis Performance by iPTA (International Tennis Performance Association) and CSCS-NSCA, CPSS-NSCA, Sanchez-Casal, and Etcheberry. I have trained/certified more than 1,500 coaches (for PTR, USPTA and USTA). I have a doctorate in coaching and sport psychology and was a USTA Sport Science Committee member. I have written over 100 tennis articles, was a member of the USTA Sport Science Committee and have spoken at various major conferences around the world. I am also a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC) with AASP (appliedsportpsychology.org) and on the USOPC Sport Psychology and Mental Training Registry (2025-2027).

Teaching Style

Let me know what your goals are. It's about listening and understanding you. I teach from 3 to 93 years old, complete beginners to world-ranked players. You may like a workout, get better, learn a little or play with friends. You may be a high school player or aspiring junior player just wanting to get better. Or a junior who wants to play college tennis. First lesson typically will have a 15 minutes assessment. Lessons may be focus on learning a couple things, whether technique/strokes or tactics/strategy or mental/physical preparation. I emphasize all skills, strengths and weaknesses, not just baseline play.
