About Me
Club Level Training at Rec League Prices
Hi, I'm Derek. I started in tennis when I was very little, having a grandpa and father who were passionate about tennis helped further my tennis experiences. I love the connection my grandpa and I have from all those tennis practices, and I cherish the life lessons I learned. I ended up making Lone Peak High School’s tennis team, and playing all 4 years. I loved the competition, and the individual growth I made in tennis. My greatest achievement was winning region at third varsity singles, and continuing on to the semifinals of state. In the months outside of the high school season, I played in many tournaments all around Utah, and even traveled to Las Vegas and Colorado for bigger tournaments. I currently play on a 4.5 USTA team each year, in 2018 our team got first place in Utah, and second in the region. (Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Nevada)
I strive to be the best coach I can by continually learning new ways to teach my students. Coaching isn't easy, there are days that are disappointing, frustrating and tiring. But, the payoffs are huge! I love seeing the progression of my students, and their love of tennis grow. I love seeing my students change their beliefs in what they can do and accomplish. And I love seeing my students discover tennis, and the lifelong joy and connections you can get from this wonderful sport. I would love to be your tennis coach!

Derek is great at communicating dates and times for lessons. He’s always prepared when we arrive and makes the most of my son’s hour long lesson. My son is learning how to grip, swing and serve correctly. Derek provides fun drills to teach important techniques. We are so impressed with Derek’s teaching style.
Derek S. Is a great tennis instructor. He teaches skills that are easy to follow and has a great knowledge of the game of tennis.
All four of our children (ages ranging from 5 to 14) have taken tennis lessons from Derek over the past couple of years. With four children having different levels of interest and such a varied age range, I have been very impressed that I have NEVER had any of them wishing they didn’t have to go tennis that day or even on early morning lesson days. They all love Derek. He has great drills, keeps it fun, and really works on improving basics. I give a very high recommendation.
Derek is a fascinating trainer! He’s easy going and know all the cool techniques of teaching tennis!
Derek is a great coach and my son has improved greatly this past year with Derek coaching him and through his private Saturday lessons. I would recommend Alpine Tennis to everyone and give Derek 5 stars as a phenomenal tennis coach. Thanks Derek!

We've tried a few tennis coaches in the area, and Derek is by far the best. My three daughters take lessons from him as well as myself. He's been great! I highly recommend him!
