About Me
Hello, my name is Derek and I'm a USPTA certified professional tennis instructor. I started playing tennis at a young age and competed in tournaments ranging from the local opens up to the national level. After I finished playing college tennis, I started to become more involved in the teaching side of tennis. That's where I fell in love with a different part of the game. I have been teaching professionally now, for about 5 years and playing for about 20 years. My favorite part of working in this line of work is there is always something new to learn and incorporate into your teaching style, as well as all of the great relationships that I have built with customers from all walks of life.
Teaching Style
I am currently able to teach a wide variety of different classes and programs to juniors as well as adults. I always like to teach my lessons based on what the customer would actually like to improve in their game. My specialties are cardio tennis and live ball classes, I've been trained extensively on how to conduct these classes by a certified professional.

I’ve been taking a cardio tennis class and private tennis lessons with a Derrick for the past year. He is not only incredibly patient, but has a unique approach to teaching. He uses the Socratic method and asks you questions to make sure that you understand the reasoning behind the technique. He also teaches our 8 year old who has shown tremendous improvement over the year. He relates very well to children and has a fun approach to teaching kids while also making sure they understand the rules and techniques. We look forward to tennis each week and are very thankful to have found such a talented and fun instructor!
Always a fun and educational morning with Derek. He is patient, and detailed in his tennis instruction. I have learned a lot since I started with him.
Derek is a topnotch, very intuitive tennis instructor. Knows just how to keep things at your level, while finding innovative ways to help you improve your game. Super knowledgeable about strategies and exercises that will build your arsenal of skills and fine tune your focus, and always open to feedback and questions and changing things up on the fly based on your journey and overall energy level on any given day. Derek not only helped me get way better with the fundamentals, but also gave me so much more to think about in terms of realistic goals and how to work my opponents. I have a greater respect for the game than ever before, for sure!
