About Me
Hello! My name is Andy and I work in finance in Santa Monica. Before I moved here, I was a traveling coach on the ATP Futures tour for Collin Altamirano, a top US Junior, and helped him reach a career high of #732 in the world. When I wasn't on the road, I was coaching competitive juniors at JMG Tennis Academy. Additionally, I was a camp counselor at Nike Tennis Camp at UC Santa Cruz, and an instructor for adults at Tennis and Wine Camps at Whitman College.
As a player, I have a Universal Tennis Rating of 12, and competed in the NCAA Division III National Championships 3 times. I graduated from Whitman College with the 3rd highest winning percentage in school history.
While I have a lot of experience coaching competitive juniors, I also very much enjoy coaching young children and adults. It's never too early, or too late, to improve your game!
Teaching Style
I focus on modern technique, a heavy topspin ball, and body position. These items will create a player that is consistent and tough to beat. I will usually structure lessons in the following format.
1. Explanation and Hand Tossing.
2. Feeding.
3. Live ball.
In most of my lessons, I will spend time on forehand, backhand and serve. For beginners I have also taught all shots to get people playing ASAP!
