For over 30 years, I’ve shared my love for tennis with students from beginners to intermediate levels with proven techniques (learned by getting 2 degrees in education) and a level one practitioner of NLP (Neuro-linguistics), which I feel was invaluable in teaching any subject in a manner that results in a shorter learning curve and the ability to gain rapport with almost any personality type of student. Not to mention playing on the varsity squad for my last year at Illinois State University. Then in ’72, I came to So CA and started a tennis instructional endeavor, “Learn Tennis,” teaching beginner to intermediate students. In 2020, I wrote the book “Top Secrets of Teaching Tennis, or Anything Else for That Matter”. One thing I learned, and it still is the same today, in the end... ‘How much fun did you have at your lesson? I also have a few teaching aids that cut the learning curve in half. I guarantee one thing, you will walk off the court with knowledge about tennis that you didn’t have in the beginning. Like they say...JUST DO IT!

With beginners you start with the simplest tasks, like bouncing the ball on the oourt. If they can do that, move on with another excersise slightly more challenging. It is a set of plateaus that anyone goes through to reach the hightest goal they can. They may have to go back to the lower plateau to re-learn the skill they're trying to master, and it's your job to see to it that they're on the correct plateau that stimulates but not intimadates them.
