About Me

I am a member of the USPTA, and graduated from the University of Southern California in 1989 with a bachelor of arts in communication. I was on the nationally ranked NCAA Division 1 tennis team all four years. After graduation I then became the general manager at Seascape Sports Club for two years then decided to teach full time because of my love for the game. I worked for 23 years in the Monterey Bay Area as self employed tennis professional/tennis director/owner at Seascape Sports Club from May 1989 until December 2011. I left the Seascape area for a position as the tennis/swim/fitness director at Maui Country Club in Spreckelsville, Maui, Hawaii for three years before leaving in August 2014. I have won 12 national doubles titles since I started playing senior events in 1994, 10 with longtime partner Brian Cory of Prunedale, CA, and two in mixed with Erika Smith of Oakland, CA. My most recent championship was at the 2008 men's 40s hardcourts. I have been ranked no.1 in the nation in men's 35 and 40s doubles individually for six years consecutively from 2002-2007. From 2008-2010 my partner and I finished no. 2 nationally in doubles and I was no. 6 in the United States in singles in 2010. In 2009, I was selected to represent the United States in the World Team Championships, which takes only four of the top players in the nation. The team placed second in the world and beat no. 1 seeds and defending champs Italy in route to a finalist against France. In 2000 I was a player/captain of my own national championship Open level USTA league tennis team. My son Jordan and I reached the finals of the 69 team field at the Level One 2009 National Father/Son Hardcourt Championships at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and were ranked no. 4 in the nation. In 2013 I attained a world doubles ranking on the ATP tour of 1117 at 45 years of age.

Teaching Style

I emphasize mental toughness, process orientation and having fun. I adapt to my student and love the challenge of helping them get the most out their game. I specialize in every age and every level and love family lessons. My biggest strength is identifying areas of improvement quickly and also making it fun!
