About Me

Hi my name is Monica and I am a local Honolulu tennis coach with over 17 years of playing experience and over 2 years of teaching experience. I left my hometown of Vancouver, Canada and moved to Hawaii 4.5 years ago to pursue my dream to play college tennis at Hawai’i Pacific University. When I graduated back in May, I decided I was not ready to let go of my tennis journey. I wanted to share my knowledge and passion for the game and help others achieve their goals-mainly in tennis, but also in life. The things I’ve learned in my tennis journey are valuable tools and habits that I carry with me to this very day. Tennis has shaped who I am both on and off the court!

Teaching Style

I offer private tennis lessons, semi-private tennis lessons, group tennis lessons and hitting sessions for all ages (kids, teens, adults, seniors) and for all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). So whether you need to work on some specifics like your forehand, backhand, volley, serve, service return, overhead, drop shot, approach shot, footwork, singles strategy or doubles strategy-I would be more than happy to help you out with your tennis game.

With a lot of competitive experience I have a lot of knowledge on strategy and the mental part of the game.

When working with a new client I first ask them what their goals are and if there is anything in particular they would like to work on. Then I evaluate their level of play, and determine their strengths and weaknesses. I go through a complete warm up with them and do a mental assessment.
If they are new to the game I will teach them the proper technique and fundamentals, i.e. how to hit a forehand, and backhand, the lines on the court and rules of the game.
After that I will usually proceed with either some hitting drills or basket feeding while giving pointers and adjustments to help them hit better shots. I like to end the lesson with serves and/or point play.
