About Me
Hi, I am Coach Maria. I have been playing competitive tennis since age 5. I grew up in Venezuela and traveled frequently around South America to play Junior tennis tournaments. I was accepted into the Nick Bollettieri Academy (IMG) in Boca Raton, Florida at age 12 for additional tennis training. Now I reside and work in Houston, Texas where I have a passion for playing and teaching tennis to people of all skill levels and ages. I compete in USTA/HTA leagues in both singles and doubles which helps me to keep my tennis skill set sharp. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, and can accommodate both languages for student communication.
Teaching Style
I specialize in sound and proper baseline groundstroke, serve, and volley technique. Once the basic shots have been mastered, I like to develop more advanced shots like the slice forehand/backhand, drop shots, swinging volleys, offensive/defensive lobbing, as well as match strategy. I also like to offer the options of match specific cardio conditioning and real match play during the lessons if the students express interest.
