About Me

Hello! My name is Jerusalem Thao, and I recently graduated from St. Olaf College. During my time there, I played four years of varsity tennis and had the privilege of being Captain in my final year. While playing college tennis, I also coached both the men's and women's tennis teams.

My first two years were rough on the men's tennis side due to physical injuries, which limited my ability to play. To stay involved, I asked my coach if I could support the team with my coaching strengths. This allowed me to coach the men's team during my sophomore and junior years at St. Olaf. This experience then translated into a role as the assistant women's coach, where I often led and instructed practices. I coached the women's team during my junior and senior years at St. Olaf.

Before college I attended Mounds Park Academy, where we had won a single A state championship in 2019 and my partner and I had won the consolation state doubles championship. I began my tennis career in 7th grade playing for Harding High Schools junior varsity team.

Teaching Style

I believe I am a jack of all trades when it comes to coaching. If I were to say what I was best at, it would be technique. Being self-taught in the beginning of my career I was fixated on technique which led me to watch hundreds of hours of videos. Through college and my summers of coaching I have also learned how to structure lessons whilst being able to look at strategy.

I love to emphasize that tennis is a marathon and not a sprint, there are times in lessons that you may feel like you are on top of the world but other times you may feel the worst. I want to emphasize that there is no judgement of how good or bad you are and that I will be with you the whole step of the way where ever you go.

I structure my lessons to goals we set for YOU! I would structure my lessons to what would best make you the player you are meant to be, not everyone has the same type of tennis and I want to cater it to you.
