About Me
Hi, my name is Javon. I am an former college player who has been working as a coach for 20 years in the Bay Area. I have experience working with Nationally Ranked Juniors as well as competitive adults, intermediate and beginner players of all ages. During my time as a coach I have taken many jobs at various levels in the industry including captaining the National Zone Team representing USTA Northern California as well as working for several years as a USTA Early Development Coach at the National Training Center in Northern California. I have also been a tournament director, junior director for competition, junior programs director and proud son of a nationally ranked junior.
During my time coaching I have learned many things, but most importantly that in order to improve, you need a well informed coach, dedication and a solid game plan. I am now heading Gripspin Tennis (nonprofit CTA) as executive director and head instructor. I value every minute I have on court helping people and giving them the courage and motivation to meet their tennis needs.
Teaching Style
I believe that players learn best when the technique is explained in a simple and progressive way (within 3 steps). Fundamentals are extremely important in tennis, so repetition is a must. My coaching style is mostly based on the goal that each player sets for themselves and I adapt my style to that.
