About Me
Hi, my name is Brian. I have been playing tennis nearly all my life, starting when my parents would bring me to their adult recreational league matches and hit with me. I went on to play for my high school and college (NCAA Division III) tennis teams. I've spent most of my career as a newspaper and magazine journalist but am transitioning to full-time tennis and pickleball coaching. I received my associate instructor certification from PTR in 2019 and launched my own coaching business, Sunshine City Tennis LLC, in 2021.
Teaching Style
I teach tennis in accordance with Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) methods. I like to emphasize groundstroke fundamentals and footwork before moving on to more advanced strokes, such as the serve. My lessons usually begin with a fun warmup game or two before moving into a formal skill, shot, or strategy development session. The, the last 15-20 minutes of each lesson are devoted to a more open, competitive game that's designed to emphasize the stroke or technique that was learned earlier.
