Teaching Style
I enjoy teaching the modern game of tennis tailored to your individual talent. Tennis is a game of style, power, and spin. It is essential that a coach be flexible and can develop you based on what your goals are. I am flexible with the structure of lessons including time, location, and size whether a private or small group. Please feel free to contact me directly with any special request such as USTA League teams as well.

I originally met Rick when he started coaching the USTA league team I joined. While Rick can certainly teach tennis techniques, what really sets him apart is his focus on actual match tactics and strategy. I have received many tennis lessons from many different pros, but until I met Rick, I never had a pro voluntarily show up to watch one of my live matches and then conduct a post-match debrief session on what happened and why. I always follow these sessions up with a private lesson where Rick will further explain what my strengths and weaknesses in the match were, and he will set up drills and progressions to help me fix my issues and develop new habits. I also appreciate Rick’s teaching style. His methods give you the ability to learn how to self-correct yourself under pressure--as I play matches, I can always hear his voice in my head. If you are interested in competitive tennis and improving your match results, I recommend Rick very highly. I have learned more about match tactics and strategy as they apply to my game and style than any other pro I have worked with.
Coach Rick is more than just a coach who shows up to give you a 60-minute lesson and leaves. Coach Rick cares about his players and wants to build a relationship with you, understand your motivation and goals, and make you the best player you can be. He will be your coach and mentor and frankly, your friend. Coach Rick pays attention to detail and he puts in the time with you to give you the right technique to better your game. You will see a difference in the way you play and your game will improve. Coach Rick has coached me, my husband and our children for years now and we have all had the best experience with him. Absolutely grateful for him. Hands down the best coach.
Anyone that has played the game of tennis seriously, meaning by playing in the USTA Leagues, knows it’s a very challenging game. Most players that want to get better have Coaches to help them improve.
Coach Rick Piliwale-Wilson is the epitome of the kind of Coach that not only helps you get better. Coach Rick knows how to strip your game down to where you understand how to make the changes to get better.
Coach Rick, approaches the psychological game of tennis like a therapist without the sofa! Lol 😂
If you are looking for a Coach that will show up to matches from time to time. That gives you on the spot feedback. That will increase your tennis iq, your court awareness, your game performance. Coach Rick is the coach for you.

My description of Rick is two-fold because I met him initially as a tennis pro for myself and then he worked with my son and eventually, and wonderfully, became my son’s USTA league tennis coach. Rick comes to the court incredibly professional with a plethora of knowledge and experience both with adults and juniors. He also is a terrific guy who knows how to teach tennis in an exceptional manner. He has taken not only my game but more importantly my son’s game to next level. Over the course of the year, he has deepened the passion of tennis within my son and has worked with him so well, my son is a completely different player for the better. It is because of his hard work and Rick’s direction. Rick is authentically committed to who he coaches, how he coaches, and his unwavering support for his team has proven to be unmatchable. I am incredibly grateful to Rick for working with my son and myself. I highly recommend Rick as a tennis pro and tennis coach. He’s the best of the best.
Rick is the best tennis coach I’ve ever had. I’ve played tennis as a junior and as an adult and over the years I’ve worked with 5-10 different coaches. He is able to identify errors in my technique quickly so his feedback leads to immediate improvement in my game.
Highest possible recommendation for Rick, who is the only pro I am working with now. I'm a former 4.5 player slowly making his way back to previous form and Rick is the one getting me there. Rick is very flexible and insightful. There is no wasted time during his lessons (unless I need a break to get the heart rate back down!) We work on specific strokes or situations and then move on to application in real points.
I've also taken group lessons with Rick, so I know that he can adapt his teaching to all contexts/ability levels. He is really amazing with children/juniors, too!
Excellent technical analysis. Great teacher!
