About Me
Hi, my name is Michael, and I’m a tennis coach based in Ellicott City and Baltimore with over 20 years of playing experience and more than 9 years of coaching experience. I am a PTR Certified Tennis Professional, dedicated to helping players of all ages and skill levels improve their game and truly enjoy tennis.
My playing background includes competing in multiple ITF (International Tennis Federation) professional tournaments across Africa and Europe. I also served as captain of my college tennis team in Kansas before transferring to Coppin State University, a Division I program in Baltimore, Maryland. These experiences helped shape my competitive mindset and deep understanding of the game.
I have coached at Garrison Forest High School, where I worked with student-athletes to develop their skills and prepare for competitive play. Over the years, I have also worked extensively with young players in Ellicott City and Baltimore, many of whom have gone on to earn spots on their high school tennis teams. Helping players grow to that level is something I take great pride in.
I have helped beginners progress to USTA ratings of 3.5 or 4.5, and guided intermediate players to improve from 3.0 up to 4.5. I also run focused hitting sessions for college players and for athletes who are planning to play at the college level, helping them improve technique, match readiness, and competitive confidence. I’ve coached players ranging from ages 3 to 90, and I understand the importance of tailoring each lesson to the individual to ensure the best possible progress and experience.
Tennis is one of my biggest passions, and I take pride in helping players fall in love with the game while making real, measurable improvement. I focus on understanding each player’s unique goals and building a personalized plan to help them succeed—whether that’s learning the basics, gaining confidence, preparing for competition, or reaching collegiate-level performance.
I currently offer lessons at select locations in the Ellicott City and Baltimore areas, including:
Rockburn Park (Long Gate Playground)
Goucher College
Clifton Park
Druid Hill Park
My weekly schedule is structured for consistency:
Weekdays: Primarily at Rockburn Park
Saturday mornings: Goucher College or Druid Hill Park
Saturday afternoons: Rockburn Park or Long Gate Playground
Clifton Park: Available on high-demand days
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated coach who is fully committed to your development, I would love to work with you and help take your tennis game to the next level.
Teaching Style
As I continue my journey as a tennis coach, I am committed to excellence, continuous learning, and bringing out the best in every player I work with. Tennis has given me so much, and now, I am honored to give back by helping others discover their own love for the game. I’m fun!

Mike was a phenomenal coach. His knowledge of the game is evident in the way he is able to break down complex skills for a beginner such as myself. He easily adapted his approach to cater to my own personal goals for the game and was always excited to challenge me in that journey. I was so happy to be able to work with him that I asked a friend to join in for a session. Mike was thorough, clear and balanced in his directions for us and curated a seamless environment of camaraderie and competition. If you are looking to learn the game or focus in on a skill, I highly recommend booking with Mike.
