Hey there, my name is Mike McFelia. I am a current 20 year old student at Binghamton University, where I look to play Varsity level tennis. I am from South Huntington, Long Island and I attended Walt Whitman High School where I played for the Varsity team starting in the eighth grade. I became Captain of the team my Junior year of high school and played both first and second singles for this competitive Division 1 League 1 team. I was a mentor to the team and aided in the advancement to the Semifinals of our team tournament. I am a two time All County player and made it to the Finals of Divisionals twice. I have won several USTA tournaments, competing in Level 1s and Sectionals for both singles and doubles. I have been teaching for four years and currently teach at Eastern Athletic in Melville, Long Island. I also teach private lessons to several students, developing them into complete players.

Teaching style differs based on level of player, but I work to meet the players potential and bring them to a more advanced level. I emphasize footwork and depth of the ground strokes. As a player, I did a lot of serve and volleying so those two aspects are very important to me when I am teaching. Most importantly though is that the student enjoys his time playing. Kids should always be excited to be on the court and that is the kind of environment I look to create. I am able to bond well with kids since I am 20 years old and went through the same exact process, as I developed my own skills and improved to my current level. My lessons are structured normally based on an hour and is different for each level, but they include warming up groundstrokes, volleys etc.. and then going into drills, games, rallies, serves and some game play. I also act as a hitting partner for more advanced players.
