About Me

I love the game of tennis and play almost daily. I became a certified instructor to better enable me to share my love of the game. I enjoy working with both youth and adults. My tennis experience includes high school and college coaching, beginner and advanced clinics for both youth and adults, tournament play, league play, interdistrict play, and many years of district and sectional USTA rankings. I am married with two adult children and 3 dogs.

Teaching Style

I like to ask the student what their goals are and start from there. The basic format for my lessons after this is to explain, demonstrate, and let the student practice, moving on at their pace. I always encourage questions.

Jim is very professional and nice. He interacted with my kids well and they learned a lot and enjoyed the lessons.

We are progressing nicely and I love when Jim and my son rally. He is gaining confidence and improving his technique. What's more is that we learn technique then put it into play in the same day lesson. Jim gets my son's need to 'test out the skill' and he knows that my son loves to compete. We truly picked the 'best' instructor. Happy we found him on mytennislessons.com --- otherwise we would never have had a way to build skill like this.

Here's what you need to know. Jim is teaching 2 of us at a time from my home. We decided on joining together. What is unique here is our age range, it's my son and myself. So, not only does he have different skill levels he is facing as a daily challenge, he is facing 2 different ages. The difference is, Jim powers through- reaching both of us with skilled guidance. From short feeds to cross court, we are challenged with each stroke, swing, etc.

What we appreciate the most is his sincere and devout commitment to each stroke, backhand, forehand, volley, etc. No corners are cut. If we do it wrong, we start back at the basic. This is great so that you don't get it wrong when the balls literally start flying. We have a list of 3 rules that we follow and when we do, we strike the ball properly each time. Jim is a gem!

Jim spent a great deal of time explaining our stance, positioning and how to hold the rackets, all the most important building blocks. He allowed us to ask endless questions and then we practiced. We are excited to keep on working with Coach Jim!

We (my son and I) love that he is patient and advises on what we are doing right and wrong. It makes a difference when someone tells you how to follow through, and what pieces make up a court, rather than tossing you into unknown.

Additionally, he was set up and waiting for us, so we were set to start the minute we arrived! Can't wait for more.

Jim is extremely patient and thorough. He has a hawk eye to catch errors in grip, footing or stroke. What's more, he works diligently to help you improve in areas that specifically need work. I am so very lucky to work with Jim and I highly recommend him to both beginners and advanced players. He's fantastic!

Jim has a great teacher's ability to move forward or stay on a point as necessary. He also has a good balance between corrective and positive feedback.
I recommend him without hesitation.
