About Me

Hi, my name is Hemu Aggarwal. I have been playing tennis for over 25 years. I am a certified Tennis Coach. My typical tennis lesson begins with a dynamic warm-up to loosen muscles and improve footwork, followed by technical drills focusing on groundstrokes, volleys, and serves to enhance form and accuracy. Tactical drills simulate match play to develop strategy and shot selection, while physical conditioning exercises build endurance and strength. Each session is tailored to your skill level, progress, and needs, ensuring effective training and a dynamic, fun atmosphere. To prepare for your tennis lesson, ensure you are well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and eating a light meal or snack about an hour before. Wear comfortable athletic clothing and proper tennis shoes, and check that your racket is in good condition. Pack essentials such as a water bottle, towel, and any personal items like a hat or sunscreen. Feel free to ask any questions.

Teaching Style

I teach with patience and kindness. I give my students encouragement and clear directions. I direct them in age-appropriate drills to teach coordination with eyes, hands, feet, and the racquet. When they are doing well, I praise and encourage them.
I help keep them focused on controlling the ball, not just using the power. I give them the understanding and importance of GPS (Grip, Preparation, and Swing Path). I teach them Forehand strokes, backhand, serve, and Lob. After a few lessons, they should be able to rally and volley.

I am a tennis student of Hemu Aggarwal,
I've been taking lessons with her for a couple of months now. I take one-hour private lessons with her twice a week.
She's what I was looking for in a tennis coach. I can't recommend her highly enough.
I wanted to start playing tennis again, with a coach focused on technique, and she's all about technique and practice.
She is patient and motivating.
Warm-up is something we do every single class. She explains what we're going to do that day and the outcomes of doing so. She always listens to my questions, answers them, and explains every single one.
Now I know about handgrips, forehand, backhand, and how vital footwork is, and we are currently working on serving.
I plan to continue with her until she feels that I'm ready to move on to the next level.

We have been very happy with the lessons our daughter (11) has had with Hemu.  She has been taking lessons for four months and has learned so much.  When she started, she had trouble rallying for more than a few strokes.  Now she learned grips, forehand, backhand, volleys, overheads, and more.  Most importantly, she has gone from lukewarm about tennis to enthusiastic and confident. Hemu is a patient and kind teacher.  After every lesson, our daughter speaks glowingly about her, and she can be a harsh critic.  I would highly recommend Hemu as a tennis instructor.

For Ava-
Hemu is a wonderful coach with younger kids.
She is patient and gives them undivided attention. Her knowledge of tennis really comes through with her advice on technique, balance, positioning, etc. Even with picky kids, she finds a way to connect.

For Alina:
Hemu loves to see kiddos enjoying themselves on the court and encourages the love for the sport.
Her advice on, and knowledge of, tennis really shines through during her lessons. Her friendly demeanor always makes everyone feel welcome and at ease.

Hemu Aggarwal coaches my 8yr old son. She has strived to teach him proper techniques with both how he hits and his footwork. She uses fun targets to encourage him to work on his control and praises him when he does hit the target. She has shown him how to follow through when he hits the ball and encourages him to do it each time. She also helps to keep him focused on controlling the ball, not just using his power. She has instructed him on his backhand, which has improved greatly since he started lessons with her. To ensure he not only hits, but she has also shown him different footwork so he can move properly when hitting. Hemu is patient, kind and a wonderful coach.

Hemu Aggarwal coaches my 5 hr old son with patience, kindness, encouragement, and clear directions. She directs him in age-appropriate drills to learn coordination with the racquet. He loves the balancing games that they play. He also enjoys the praise and encouragement when he is doing well. He is always eager to show us, and anyone else that he can, what he has learned. He asks every day if he has tennis today because he constantly is looking forward to his lessons. Hemu has been a great coach for him.

Hemu Aggarwal has been a great tennis instructor for my 10-year-old daughter. My daughter was a complete beginner and Hemu was methodical in her approach, gearing the lessons to her level, but making it fun at the same time. She started with the basics and gave step by step instructions, being very patient and encouraging along the way. My daughter has had 12 lessons so far and I’ve seen a great improvement. She is really enjoying learning the game of tennis with Hemu!

I was a tennis student of Hemu Aggarwal’s for many months in 2021 and 2022. I took one hour private lessons from her. I can not recommend her highly enough-she was everything I was looking for in a teacher so I could get up to speed and start playing tennis again. She was extremely patient and explained every step in a way that was easy to understand. We always did some warm-up exercises prior to class and then she would tell me what we were going to focus on for the class that day. She always listened to my questions and was able to clarify things for me. We started with the basic grips, Continental, and Eastern, and moved on to forehand, backhand, serves, and lobs. She put it all together in a way that was not stressful or overwhelming. She complimented me on what I was doing right and gave me constructive directions on how to correct what was not quite right. I plan to continue with Hemu after the Summer. An A + teacher! Tanya Norkus Petaluma, CA
