About Me

Hi there! My name is Giuliano- I'm 23 years old, just graduated Stanford, and am currently working as the Assistant Varsity Tennis Coach at Castilleja School in Palo Alto. My main academic study was music- I received my undergraduate degree in Music and my graduate degree in Music Technology (both from Stanford), and I spent the summer working at San Francisco Opera. I also love tennis, both playing and coaching. I have been playing since I was about 8 years old, and competitively for about 10 years. I played on my high school's varsity tennis team for three years, playing 1 and 2 doubles, and was a captain for my junior and senior years. I also played on the Stanford Club Tennis Team, an continue to play in USTA adult tournaments. In addition, I have coached my high school's summer tennis camp for five summers, and served as an assistant varsity tennis coach to my high school's girl's tennis team last year. I am currently a USPTA Applicant professional, having passed the written and grip exams; I will take the on-court portions of the exam within the next 2-3 months. With coaching, I love helping students improve their skills on the tennis court, am extremely positive/encouraging, and love connecting lessons learned on the tennis court to things that the student is experiencing off the court. Tennis is a life-long sport, and I love sharing my passion with my students!

Teaching Style

In an hour long lesson, I start with a five minute warm-up, where I warm-up groundstrokes and volleys with my student. Ideally, the student would have arrived five-ten minutes before hand and done a light warm-up. While the warmup is happening, I'll ask the student about things that are happening in his/her life, regarding tennis or otherwise. After this, I will ask the student he/she wants to work on, then spend the next 30-35 minutes working with the student on that skill. My strength is in doubles play (serves/returns, volley, movement, strategy), but I am also adequate in helping students improve groundstrokes. I make sure that my student takes periodic water/drinking rates, as I like to push my students as hard as they can possibly go. During this, I remain positive and upbeat, and always encourage my students when they perform with the right technique. For the next 15-20 minutes, the student and I play a game that reinforces the concepts learned during the lesson. For the final two-three minutes, I'll summarize what I learned, maybe assign some homework, and end the session on a positive note!

Guiliano was punctual at our last lesson. He is energetic and has a sharp eye, which translates to being able to make those small adjustments to improve my son's game with each lesson. He communicates well and Ing son is gaining more and more confidence. Very high marks.

My kids love Giuliano's lessons! He has been teaching my boys for several weeks now and every week they are excited to see him. He is outgoing and patient, makes the lessons and drills fun, and keeps them on their toes while teaching great technique. He is easy to reach and very accommodating when scheduling the lessons. We highly recommend him!

He took the time to analyze my shots- able to pinpoint the mistakes I was making & describe & demonstrate how to correct them. It was valuable & fun!

Giuliano is a fantastic instructor and does a great job explaining the basics (I am a beginner). He gave me some great tips and pointers to improve my game. He is friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Definitely recommend him!

I've really liked my lessons with Giuliano. He is very good at focusing on your problem areas and working on the right technique. For example, I wanted to improve my backhand, he spent a lot of time on this and kept emphasizing on fixing the mistakes I was making. Giuliano is also very flexible with his timings and reserves courts well in advance for his lessons.

From the initial outreach, Giuliano was the ultimate professional. Quick to respond, eager to accommodate and always polite. He worked to ensure that he understood my background and skill-level, and from the first lesson immediately worked to improve and hone my swing. He proves crisp feedback that can positively affect ones game in a short amount of time. Overall great teacher!

I took my first lesson with Giuliano yesterday and had a great experience. From pre-lesson communication to in-lesson instruction, Giuliano has been incredibly accommodating and easy to work with around my schedule and needs. I am a beginner who learned to play tennis in Phys Ed class and never mastered the basics. Giuliano is working closely with me to master the fundamentals and build on from there. I am pleased to have found exactly what I was looking for in a coach; and think Giuliano is not only an experienced, skilled (and patient) instructor, but an all-around friendly guy who can put you at ease and make sure you are having fun during the lesson as well! Really looking forward to my remaining 5 lessons with Giuliano!
