About Me

Hi, my name is Bruce. I began my tennis career in college where as a scholar-athlete I successfully balanced both my studies and passion for the game. Many hours were spent on the hard courts of the Esplanade on Storrow Drive in Boston and many more on the forgiving clay behind HBS in Cambridge. Upon graduation I was able to share my enthusiasm of this game with my high schools students where I worked as a long-term substitute teacher (physical education) before having to fulfill my obligation to the USAF. While in the service and living in England for four years I began both my graduate school studies and sporadically teaching and playing tennis on the hard courts of RAF Lakenheath and the grass courts of Newmarket Lawn Tennis Club. I had the pleasure of being in the stands of Wimbledon Center Court to witness Virginia Wade win her Ladies Singles title during the Queen's Jubilee year. My competitive tennis history includes inter and intra club tournament play as well as USTA and early participation in the Connecticut Tennis Challenge. As a 40+ challenge ladder player I was a finalist in the Fairfield County division in 2000. My on-court time is now principally spent at several mid-Fairfield County tennis clubs where I can be found playing and teaching tennis part-time as a member of a very talented instructional staffs. Students, please be located one of the following towns: Weston, Easton, Westport, Fairfield, Norwalk, Wilton or Redding.

Teaching Style

Playing for an hour (or more) with others at a similar level under my guidance as a USPTA-certified teaching pro will make you mentally and physically sharper. More importantly, it's a lot of fun and brings a higher level of focus into other areas of your daily life. Among the core elements on which we will be working is conditioning, balance, positioning, preparation and stroke execution. Strokes include the full range of open and closed stance forehand / backhand groundstrokes, approach, spins, slice, volley, drop shot, serve and overhead.

Jonathan C. - October 14, 2019

It's like hitting around with an extremely knowledgable friend. He adjusts the lessons based on your goals and needs, often times on the fly. Great instructor.

Andrei C. - October 15, 2019

I am so happy to find Bruce!!

My 11 years old son looks forward to the lesson with Bruce every week.

He says " Bruce is very nice, funny, and a very good teacher". :)

One hour lesson is full of fun and excellent activities, and my son has learned so much already. Besides his excellent teaching, I love his gentle personality too. He is always polite, on time, and very organized.

Takako S. - June 2, 2019

My girlfriend and I started taking lessons with Bruce for a group activity and to also get our young daughter around the court and the game. It is one of the things we most look forward too each week as Bruce makes the time very instructional to improve our games and also a lot of fun. He is a great coach, instructor, and person. Highly recommend....

We are so glad we found Bruce through my tennis lessons. RS

Rohit S. - May 20, 2019

Bruce is a very good instructor and an all around friendly guy. After working with him and determining my ability, he quickly based lessons/drills around my skill set to help improve my game. I've come a long way working with him and I would recommend him to everyone.

Stefan B. - June 13, 2014

Bruce is fantastic! He is extremely patient and knowledgable! As a beginner, with a back injury, I was nervous at our first lesson, but Bruce has been extremely patient and considerate at each lesson. He continues to challenge me with new drills and exercises, while making sure that my back is ok. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

Barbara M. - June 12, 2014

Bruce has been teaching my six year old and four year old this summer. They are having a great time and learning a lot. He makes the lessons productive and fun. He has a lot of patience as well. Thank you for making their initial exposure to the game so positive!

Erin D. - August 23, 2014

The two main characteristics of Bruce are professional teaching and responsibility. Bruce's instructions are all based on professional tennis knowledge, and they can really help you develop wonderful tennis techniques to improve your skill. He is always responsible and he makes sure you get what he wants to teach you every time. This means he is also very patient, so you do not have to worry about anything during the lesson. In short, Bruce is really a good coach and good friend.

Bruce has been amazing to work with. Firstly, he is responsive and flexible in terms of schedule. Secondly, and most importantly, he is a great teacher in addition to being a great player. My son has had, and continues to have, fun while learning proper techniques and the rules of the game. I highly recommend him.

Lourdes S. - July 17, 2015

Bruce is just a great teacher. He Knows how to teach, and he is very patient and supportive. He takes you from where you are and builds on it. He is upbeat and supportive. I highly recommend him.

Jerry S. - August 17, 2015

I have had 3 lessons with Bruce so far and am extremely pleased with the results. Not only does he make the lessons fun, but he teaches in such a way that helps you to break down and think about each task at hand. He is patient and always willing to answer questions. Bruce has helped fine tune my forehand, backhand, and serve, and we're well on the way to taking my game to a more competative level. I highly recommend Bruce as a tennis instructor!

Jami A. - August 19, 2015

It has been great getting back into tennis with Bruce. I have had to go back to the basics, and he really explains exactly how, why, and when to use each stroke. I would definitely recommend him to anyone of any level, and I can't wait to continue getting more skilled.

Diana S. - September 5, 2015

Bruce is a great coach. We worked on many different things like technique, volleys, lobs, forehands, and backhands. He is very patent, and he knows the sport very well. I would recommend Bruce as a coach to anyone.

Slawomir - September 13, 2015

Put simply, Bruce achieves two goals beautifully: teaching the student and making it fun. My son really looks forward to every lesson, which is very unusual for him, so Bruce must be good! In a few short weeks, his progress has been fantastic. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

Amy C. - October 20, 2015

Bruce is teaching our two girls - ages 5 and 7, neither of which have played tennis before. His demeanor is excellent with the girls, and he makes learning the basics fun and entertaining for them. Bruce is the type of coach that has the skill set (and personality) to be with the girls for the long haul, as they mature in the game of tennis.

Russell B. - March 30, 2016

For our first lesson, Bruce was incredibly personable and patient. He explained the tactic, technique and strokes. Can't wait to see how we can improve together with Bruce as our coach!

Tate T. - June 30, 2017

Bruce is an outstanding instructor. At our first lesson, he was able to understand what type of learner I am. He tailors explanations of concepts so that I can easily understand them. I have been an "advanced beginner " for years. Finally I am seeing improvement in my skills. I highly recommend Bruce.
