About Me
I have been playing and teaching tennis for my entire life. Competitively I have participated on the USTA challenger satellite circuit, played in college and other tournaments. As a teacher I have worked at many great facilities. I was the head professional at the Islamorada tennis club in the Florida keys, as well as headed up the many local clubs tennis programs and country clubs in the area. Currently I am coaching the boys varsity team at Magruder High School, Teaching for Montgomery College Rockville, Teach tennis clinics for the city of Gaithersbug. I have almost thirty years of experience teaching private, semi-private and group lessons. I have taught physically and mentally challenged students. Currently I am working with the city of Gaithersburg building their senior tennis and starting a ten and under program. I am always searching for new students
Teaching Style
I try to tailor my lessons to the needs, wants, and abilities of my students. I start very basic and fundamental and build to where the student can successfully rally. Upon reaching that, serving is the next critical step. then volleys for most students. The order can be reversed or changed easily depending on the students or groups abilities

Jim is a superb tennis coach. I cannot imagine anyone who could be better. I played tennis years ago and wanted to get back to it. I have had 12 lessons and just purchased another series of 12 lessons. Jim started out with the basics which, with his coaching, made big improvements to both my forehand and backhand strokes. We are working on (1) my footwork to better cover all parts of the court, (2) my learning to watch the ball at all times to anticipate where the ball is going to be returned so that I am where I need to be to continue the volley, and (3) my serve, which is improving. Jim structures each lesson to give me practice in improving basic baseline, mid-court, net strokes and footwork and, in each lesson, introduces new ways to practice all that I am learning. He is always on time and ready to go and knows ways to increase my confidence while at the same time improving my skills. I am thrilled with the progress that I am making and will continue to work with Jim. He is great!
James is an excellent coach. My daughter truly enjoyed the experience and would look forward to each class. It is unfortunate that we had to relocate and now James is not accessible to us. My daughter asks we can do the now long drive to maintain him as our coach. Genuine sense of humor, patient and very adjusting with the child's needs.
Jim is a very experienced coach. His approach is innovative with demonstrated results. He applies the "mosaic" approach to help the player incrementally improve his game. Kudos for a job well done.
Jim has been fantastic with my daughter who wanted to improve on her basic skills. He advises as well as corrects and does so encouragingly. She has competed only in doubles but now feels confident that she can try for a singles spot.
I have been playing tennis for twenty years and have relearned so much from
Jim in my first 4 lessons. Everyone should do refresher lessons.
I play friendly competitive games once a week and these lessons have definitely upped my game.

Our daughter Bella loves her tennis lessons every week with James. He is very patient, yet he does a great job at pushing Bella to learn new things every week! She can't wait to go to her lesson every week!
Jim was a very effective and especially patient instructor. By the end of my lessons, I could volley well, hit groundstrokes, and serve pretty well. My main challenge was my forehand groundstroke, and those definitely improved.
Jim is an outstanding instructor who evaluates the student's basic needs and works on an actionable performance improvement plan. Kudos to you, Jim!
