Hey, my name is Chris. Let me start by saying I LOVE TENNIS! Whether it is playing, watching, talking about it, or coaching/teaching someone else who shares an interest, I simply love the game of tennis. I have played since I was in the 5th grade up through college. Although I no longer play competitively, I still play four times a week. After graduating from Howard Payne University in 1996 I remained in Brownwood, Texas and was hired as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach and also began giving private lessons. A year later I became the head tennis coach there at HPU while continuing with private lessons. I relocated to Dallas in 2000, and although I hung up my coaching hat at that time, to this day there is nowhere else on earth I'd rather be than on a tennis court.
I actually prefer teaching beginners. I grew up with a coach who really stressed how important the fundamentals of the game are. You might be the best strategist or the most physically fit person out there, but those things are useless if you can't hit a forehand or backhand. I usually spend the first 3/4 of an hour lesson focusing on stroke production and hitting hundreds and hundreds of balls. The final 1/4 we work on the serve.
